Inspired by an item in the August/September edition of The American Bahá’í, in which two Bahá’í groups in Northern Ohio sent out notes of appreciation to schoolteachers containing Bahá’í quotations about the station of educators in society, the Elkhart County Bahá’ís in Northern Indiana undertook a similar project from August to October.
“This was the perfect service project during the Covid epidemic,” said participant Bob Kronemyer of Elkhart. “In-person contact was minimal.”
They delivered 487 personal teacher appreciation letters to the 14 elementary schools and one alternative school in the Elkhart Community Schools. The letters, on pastel paper, included this passage from the Faith…
The education and training of children is among the most meritorious acts of humankind and draweth down the grace and favour of the All-Merciful, for education is the indispensable foundation of all human excellence and alloweth man to work his way to the heights of abiding glory.
Ann (Bob’s wife) added, “Being the only two Bahá’ís in a county of roughly 200,000 people, the letter-writing campaign was a massive undertaking for the two of us. But there is much satisfaction and joy in sharing the Faith with hundreds of local teachers.”
